Need electrical help for attached garage

So, I recently bought a house that had an attached garage. Would have preferred a detached, but its better than no garage! I found out shortly after that the only outlet in the garage is part of a 15a circuit with many other rooms. No good! I decided to run a 20a dedicated outlet, so I can run my compressor and power tools, but where I want the outlet is a floor joist between the garage and basement (notice the two started holes). Should I just drill through and put a metal box on the wall, or any suggestions? I don't really have a way to go higher. 01fc44a3b77f27d3488e2ca30f84ee4f.jpg

Coming in rear of surface mounted box will work and the easiest way to go. I assume you are using Romex wire.

Yes, my plan was one 12ga romex from panel, cross basement, and through the wall to a double outlet box. Wanted to have the box in the wall, but can go straight to basement that way.
