When I built my shop (Ed's Garge-mahal link) I put in 2 - 24inch holes for some vent/exhaust fans. I wanted to be able to open a door and swing in a fan. It gets too cold here (minus 30 now!) to have just louvers and a shop/barn fan is too loud.
Any ideas?

I'm just a lurker here since I no longer have a shop and live in an apartment, but in my old shop which was 30 X 50 X 12 I had to exhaust fans in the south 50 foot wall about 9 feet off the floor. I had lovers on the outside and then boxed in the fans on the inside with 2x material and then mounted a door on the inside that was hinged on the bottom so I could swing them down when in use. I used a silicone bead seal on the doors to keep the air transfer limited. Also worked well when the shop doors were open on nice days to keep the louvers from flapping when the wind blew. Ran flexible conduit through the side of the box down to the fan switch and then to a plug recept. Just a thought.
