I use a ton of shop towels -- mostly detailing and final cleaning/drying of car parts or whatever I'm working on at the time. Currently, I pile them up next to the garage sink and take them in to the washing machine when I have enough to wash them by themselves.

I'm looking for ideas for a garage-themed hamper for the towels, so they don't just pile up at the sink. Doesn't need to be huge -- a 5 gallon bucket would probably do it, but my garage has a little style to it, so looking for something a bit cooler. Re-purposed auto parts would be a plug, but nothing good is coming to mind. All ideas welcome. Picture of the garage below for inspiration...

I love Steele Canvas baskets and use them for everything. Not automotive themed but industrial.

What about just using a 5 Gallon Bucket? Paint to match your theme [with or without custom graphics] You could go old school too Paint and Pinstripe or colour co-ordinate to a brand ie: Red and Black for Lincoln,Craftsman, Milwaukee, [with desired stickers of course] etc. Purple and A Royal Purple sticker and Wham. Let your Imagination go wild. Get some tires and set the pail through the center of the stack and a Hubcap for a lid. You have a lot of room for this so making something to blend/contrast with your theme should be pretty easy. You could do The brands of vehicles you cater to Chevy for the good clothes Ford for the garbage can Chrysler/Dodge for the dirty materials. I'll try and check back with more as they come to me. I'm "Monza Harry" you didn't think Chevy was going to be the garbage can did you? LOL!! I would insure that I used a metal can and lid though you don't want any spontaneous combustion right? Harry

Cut the top off a beer keg and spend some time polishing it?
I think a vintage 35gallon barrel would be cool
Vintage oil pump can or milk jug both are about 5 gallons
Wine or whisky barrel
Galvanized wash tub
Deep fat fryer basket

If it's mainly wet / damp rags, you're going to want something that's ventilated, otherwise you'll get mold.

If they are oily, go with the flammables can. Then you probably shouldn't be washing them in your home washing machine anyway.

How about the old fashioned rolling cart style like they have at a laundromat?
