I have a Sears garage door opener. The other night the remotes quit working and you have to hold the wall button for it to go down. Do I have a bad door senser , how do I troubleshoot this? Thanks in advance!:dunno:

The photo eyes are out of alignment or not working. Check to make sure they are pointing at each other, both of them should have a light on the front that is steady and not flashing or even flickering. Holding the button down on the wall completes the circuit and overrides the sensors, can't do that with the remote because it only sends a single signal when you push the button.

If you still can't get the indicator light to show a connection after adjusting the sensors, check the wiring that connects the sensors to the motor. I had one vibrate loose where they plug into the control board on the back of the motor.

Apologizing in advance if this is a thread hijack, but . . .

How would I disable the remote receiving part of my garage door opener? Would cutting off the little wire antenna do it?

I still want to be able to run the opener from the doorbell button, just not via a remote.

Thanks,

Cutting the wire won't do anything, well maybe it will cut the range down a few feet. Depending on the brand you can either take the receiver off, or if it uses newer technology just hold the smart button down for about one minute. That will clear any remotes out and none of them will work. Who makes the opener?

some openers have a "vacation" mode.
disables the remotes but wall switch should still work.
