My little dinky 1" dia inspection mirror won't cut it anymore. I've been lucky here with tool recommendations from you good people so I'd like to get opinions on a good set with a good sized mirror that magnifies...telescopes perhaps magnetic etc etc...

Thanks in advance...

Craftsman has a pro series telescoping one that's great, but not magnifiying. MOst people at work use them.

As for a magnet, magnets should be magnets, and mirrors should be mirrors, don't combine the two. You're either sticking your mirror to something, or trying to pick something up and getting the mirror stuck.

Not entirely so...In my case I need to stick it in something and stick it TOO something so I can have both hands free for this particular need. I don't need it to be a magnetic puckup...

No big deal if I can't find any that are not magnetic as I can stick a rare earth magnet on one if I need to.

I'll take a look at that Sears set...thanks....!!

you need to explain what you want better. I thought you wanted mirror with a pick-up magnet on the opposite end. If you're wanting to stick the mirror itself to something, you don't want a handle on it then, right:confused:

I have a few pieces of plastic mirror cut up at work for that task and tape it where I want, since what I work on isn't magnetic usually.

If I'm getting what you're asking, you might be better off getting some plastic mirror sheet ( I would think lowes/hd would have it), and gluing magnets onto the back.

Ullman Devices makes most of the mirrors sold by most of the tool trucks, Sears, and other places. They just came out with a new line of led mirrors and magnetic pick ups.

I got these two last winter for around $5.00 total at Princess Auto. I think the big one was $3 and change. they go on sale frequently. Perhaps HF has them for similar sale prices in the USA.:headscrat

Thanks for all the replies. And thanks Nissan fr the mirrored plastic suggestion.

It also looks like if Ullman doesn't make the inspection mirror you want...you don't need one. They have all kinds.

What if I also told you that I need a non-reversing mirror for another application....any ideas?

Ullman in deed markets a wide selection of inspection mirrors. Elroy was in the market last fall for some as his old ones were worn out. The local Grainger offered up these Proto examples. There is something about real glass and stainless that can't be beat:

Sears Pro round 2" works for me, pretty much the same as the BluePoint.

Eventually I am going to have some kind of video camera.

I bought one of the new LED lighted Ullman mirrors of the Matco truck when they first came out a few months ago. It's not a magnifier. I works very well for working under dashboards.

Those Protos are very pretty... Last night I used a cheap inspection mirror by OEM (Chinese outfit????) that also came with a magnet and an led light. It was a gift, so I don't know where it was bough or how much it cost, but it sure saved my ***!

I have one too, mines the blue point labled one. It works very well, sure beats holding a mirror in one hand, and trying to aim a flashlight with the other.

I've used the Proto and didn't like it, the telescoping mechanism gets too loose.

That Proto looks just like the Craftsman I have. Rectangular head, adjustable angles, telescoping...I'm a fan.

I dropped a wrench on the mirror and broke it. Guess what? Sears replaced it no questions asked. Something to keep in mind.

Sears also had (or at least did have) a GREAT magnetic pick-up tool. It has a flexible shaft like a microphone shaft, and the magnet is in a recess--you snake it down to where you need it, press the button at the end of the handle, and the magnet comes out and grabs what you need (much like a mechanic's grabber/fingers). It's great, because you can bend it around curves, and it won't grab all the metal on the way. I don't know what they charge for it, but it isn't enough!

The LED shines on the area you are working on. I have seen mirrors with 1 LED and 3LEDs. I have 1 LED on the one I have and it provides enough light for my tasks.
