Who isn't afraid of both working on a furnace in a garage AND finshing someone else's work.

Here's my issue if you have the time to read - I had a friend who is a heating guy who had recently removed a 4 month old furance from a house where the home owners were finishing their basement out and now needed a bigger unit. My friend came over one day and was talking about this unit that he had and how he really would like a flame job on his truck. For those who don't know me, I do kustom paint and pinstriping. So I told him that I'd trade him that furnace, installed for a flame job. I knew he was leaning towards a trade, so it was a win-win deal.

So he and a buddy of his came over one Saturday and dug a trench, per code, for the natural gas line from the house to the garage. They then placed the unit and ran electric to it and ran it long enough to spot that there were some parts that weren't working and since it was still so new, they got the warraunty to cover them. Great, I'm thinking. I have basically a new unit now. They bring the gas line into the building and run the duct work, and say that they'll be back next weekend to finish the job. All that they had left to do was make the gas connections at both ends of the line and run the flue. Sweet.

The next day, I pinstripe my friend's helper's truck for helping out. That was his idea and I had no problem.

Well a week go by and nothing from my friend. Another week goes by and nothing. Now, I wasn't smart enough to get any real info from the helper as far as his number or address, so now I'm kinda in a bind. I figured my friend was just busy with family stuff. He's got a BIG family and they're always doing something big on the weekends that usually cut into his sidejob schedule.

So I let it go and pretty much forget about it for several months. One day I decide to call where he worked and was told that he moved to Florida! My first thought was, well I never did give him his flames, so at least I'm not on the loosing end on this deal. Boy was I wrong. Here I am, several years later with still no heat. I've had a couple guys come over and look things over and give me reasonable estimates. Each one, I've told them to go ahead and come over as soon as they can to do it the work. No a one has shown up. None.

Are these guys lazy? Do they not want to take on the challenge of finishing other guy's work? What gives?

I'm looking for either a contractor or advice. Preferably the contractor.

Thanks for reading all my drivel.
