This might be a better converter since in units of torque rather than force:

https://www.convert-measurement-units.com/convert+Kilopond-meter+to+Inch-pounds-force.php

Seems like cm-kp is length x force like ft-lbs or in-lbs (opposite of N-m, i.e., force x length). so you can convert from cm-kp to m-kp (or kp-m) and then use the online converter to get to a more familiar set of units.

But that could be all wrong, I'm not too good w/ the metric system. In the end I ususally get to the point of determining that I either need to multiply by 100 or divide by 100, and then I go watch tv or something.

I do not believe that wrench is big enough for the proposed conversions to be correct.
What I wold do is set that thing to 1000, hook it up opposite an old beam torque wrench, and see where it clicks.
From 500 or 1000, calculating the ratio for conversion should be easy, and cold be used to discover the size of the unit.
