Need Help Adding Soffit Vents

We bought this house a few years ago, and the previous home owner added an attached garage to the house with an unfinished walls and ceiling. This place has a hip roof with a 2 foot overhang. I've always noticed the garage really heats up on summer days and when I had a new roof installed, I had additional vents added to the roof. This did not help much. I noticed there was foil faced fiberglass insulation packed on top of the walls where the soffit vent intake should be. After removing several sections of this insulation, I realized that there are no soffit vents. The exterior is finished with vinyl soffit covering a wood soffit. Being in south-east Michigan there is also gutters running around the entire perimeter of the house/garage.

I'm afraid of the answers, but is there a way for me to add vents with having to remove the gutters and aluminum fascia - finally remove the vinyl soffit and cut open the wood soffit? It's really a pisser because I've got the gutters and downspouts adjusted right after dealing with rain water issues and I'd really like to avoid messing with them again.

Why not insulate the rafters -- even with that type of insulation -- solar gain will be high and the space warm.

Are the soffits aluminum ?

Set your SkilSaw to the depth of the soffit & plywood, then cut a 12" wide slice out the entire length of each side of the garage ?

Reinstall vented soffit to cover the gap ?
