Menards ordered the wrong ideal door rail system for my garage door project.
I needed 4-12 roof rail and they sent me standard.

I custom built a beem construction spec garage to accomodate a car lift and I now have 2 door openers hanging at about 8 feet on 9 foot walls.! The openers are too low because menards didnt order the rails per the print.

I provided a blueprint for roof rail 9 ft wall 8 ft doors (2)

They shipped the standard track not the 4-12 shown in the drawing.

They ordered the wrong parts.

I was away when the installer put the wrong parts up. Altho I told him what I was doing and he sent a kid in to hang the doors and didnt advise the kid.

The kid hung what was there and did not know to stop because the the boss didnt tell him it was roof mount rail.

1-How do I verify the new replacement conversion kit will work?

2- Menards claims I am responsible to pay for the new conversion parts kit.

3- I showed them on the drawing what I needed before they placed the special order, with the manager. They messed up and ordered the wrong parts.

4- The manager says its up to me to know the correct part before I sign. I have no way of knowing as the original order did not show the actual description of the 4-12 roof rail vs the standard mount.

Now IM on the hook for 2x new railsystem, not sure the conversion kit will interface with the rest of the system and have to repay for both rehang and new conversion kit. ? At this point Im going to be out 800.

I'm getting the shaft.

Any help?

Some times to get satisfactory customer service you have to go thru the management ladder until you get the right person. Good luck in finding the one who will help you resolve your problem. I would not pay $800 to have a problem solved that someone else created due to their error. Maybe you can have them come do the job correctly and when they hand you the bill.......inform them that you feel that you owe them nothing....you now have what your original spec order called for and you have already paid for this.

i would keep after them...was it shipped to you and did you sign for it? If thats teh case it is a tough position to be in but companies will do what it takes to make the customer happy for the most part. Do they have any kind of return policy? maybe you can return the one that was installed and purchase the one you initally needed

What I did was- to have them reorder what they think is the correct parts and materials.

I got my installer to agree to inspect the correct parts when they come in and verify they will work.

I put the new order on a rarely used card. I will work thru the details as the saga unfolds. I believe menards is manning up to their part of the boo boo. I suspect it will iron out.

I'll keep you posted. I have alot more orders for Menards and I have them in hand. I suspect they will cooperate becuase they are a good company, I have more orders and I owe 7 k on my menards card at the moment.

It should work itself out.

thanks for the replies.
