Need help building a shelf / loft idea

im wanting to put a 2fy x17ft shelf on top of my walls and all the way back against main wall but my question here is everything at lumber yard is 16 ft does this have to be a speacial order lvl

or can i use 2x6 ?

You could use 2x4 x 10' lumber and double it up stagered with construction adhesive. If you want to add some added strength run a chain off an eye bolt screwed into your ridge beam to support the center.

Or do the same with 2x6

Or you could use some pallet racking and just use the shelving higher up. The bottom would be free to use as a work area.

I just called the local lumber yard and had the deliver (12) 2x12x24 ft to my garage. only took like 3 days to get them. Didn't charge delivery and the lumber wasn't priced higher. Most lumber yards get regular deliveries and could order you somewith no problem. They just don't usually stock that size because there isn't much call for it from the regular do it yourself people.
