Here is a pic that I saw and would like to build something similar for a garage but not at $1600....

Seems like something that I should be able to buy the parts and build for alot less. I am not sure where to get the stainless steel parts... Any help would be great.

I want it too look nice. It is going in a loft above the garage. But I don't want to spend a fortune either.

If you have a Farm Store (Big R, Rural King, TSC) near your area, you can buy track and rollers from there. I think the Big Box Stores (Lowe's, Home Depot, Menard's) carry it in my area also. It's a pretty common item in my area.
Good luck, Dave

I like the gate roller idea for economic reasons. Why not do that and then hide under some type of wood cover.

I buy these roller systems from the same place I buy barn metal siding when adding an outbuilding to our farm. They have a neat set of aluminum "stays" for building the doors. 2 x 4 fit in laterally and horizontally on the ends and you screw the tin it. Makes for a square door and they hold up really well.

Buy Steel... take it all apart, sand down any errant anomalies, and powder coat. Still has to be less than 1600 Bones!

Have someone machine it out of aluminum. It should be plenty strong and polishes very nicely. The assembly in your pic looks like pretty nice machine work and stainless can be hard to work. All of which leads to higher costs.
Good luck, Dave

It is just a 36" solid interior door. Maybe 50 pounds max. I might try to find someone to machine it out of aluminum. Is there any places to buy stainless rods or poles?
