Hi.
I have a detached garage/shop. Garage is probably from the 1940s. Shop was added on later (60s). Back in the days when you didn't need a setback from the neighbors.
Pics attached including floorplan. There is no interior wall, it's all one space inside. Ceiling is sheetrocked. Walls are insulated and OSB. Access to attic is via a pull down ladder.
There is some insulation on the attic floor.
I'm in Portland. Historically we normally have 11 days over 90 from June to September but a) it's getting warmer b) even when it's 80, the attic is stifling. I'd also like to cool the shop a little.
I was planning on installing a fan, I figured a gable fan into the back gable would work and was thinking about this solar unit or this powered unit. I prefer the idea of a solar for energy saving reasons, the powered one seems to draw 3A so I'd need to figure out how much it would cost to run.
I have no set ideas, I assumed a gable vent was easier than messing with roof fans (shingles) but maybe not. I'm also assuming I should cut some venting into the east side soffit.
Other options, better insulation of the attic roof area (foam sheet).
As I said, in addition to cooling the attic (safety of stored items) I'd also like to cool the shop area a little. I don't want to run an a/c.
