IMHO, any opener that gets the job done while meeting your requirements is a good one.

I discarded a Chamberlain opener because there was harmful interference in my local area. I was really upset when the installing dealer told me that the interference was a known problem before they sold me the device.

I have had my best experience with Gene openers.

It is kind of like there are Ford drivers and there are also Chevrolet drivers, both of them think they bought the better car.

I'd do a jack shaft in a second....frees up all that space above the door,

And, burglars can't circumvent it.

I keep hoping mine will die so I can justify buying a one...

It sure what you heard about jackshaft openers, but I just replaced 2 30 year old openers with LiftMaster jackshafts and couldn’t be happier. Battery backup and auto close if you forget.

Liftmaster 8500 (jackshaft). Cannot recommend highly enough. I upgraded both of my garage doors to these openers and they're great. Super quiet. Can't even tell when the garage door is opening any more.

For what its worth..
I have a liftmaster jack shaft opener. In 7 years, I am on my second one. The first one was a 3800 and crapped out (electrical board or something), Chamberlain warrantied it with an 8500.
Have had a few times where it would open on its own.. traced to bad remote batteries.
Sunday I hit the button on the wall and.. nothing...
Googled it and found there was a recall/warranty on the wall control.. ordered a free one and its on its way.. for now I hit the wires together.

for the most part I am happy with it.. for some reason the wife thinks it has too many issues.. with nothing to compare it to...

^This. I have had the liftmaster 8500 for a few years now and love it. I have heard rumors of people coming home to a garage door that has opened by itself, but that has never happened to me once in the years that I've had it.

I just picked up a pair of Genie jack shaft openers. The wife's is installed and working nicely. The guy at the O/H door shop said he doesn't sell anything till its been out for a year.

Seeing how I'm switching from Wayne Dalton's I-drive openers, I also have to swap out torquemaster springs for a traditional torsion spring.
