I have a 3 car garage w/ a very poor sheetrock ceiling. I dont want to go thru all the trouble of tearing down and re-sheetrocking the ceiling, so Ive decided that maybe I should put up some kind of decorative ceiling. But I cant decide on what.

I have thought about using used Barn tin and all other materials, but I just cant mentaly picture what it would look like.

A three car garage you say......................

:needpics:

Whats wrong with it. If it's just a matter of re-taping/sanding/painting it may be salvageable.

Welcome aboard.

its never been textured, just taped/painted.

there are several holes in it one large 2'x2' hole (where the HVAC guy stepped thru it last month)

I want something different though....my floor is going to be either Petty Blue (aka Corporate Blue) or a real nice dark Sky Blue

Im just clueless on what to use for a ceiling

Shanker how about vinyl siding soffit material? Either overlap so no seems or lay out a pattern of seams you like with j channel, hook the air stapler up to your compressor and go at it.

Mine ***** too by the way, Gargae was mudded and taped 28 years ago and it was a total PITA to paint the walls with mud falling off and turning to clay etc. I didn't do the ceiling and don't really want to know so I am interested in this question as well. My plan is soffit for now though.

607 Sq feet, It's a 28x24 - 2 Car+ with a little alcove in the corner.
Haven't priced it out yet but I am expecting $200 or so. Might be more, haven't priced siding materials in a bit.

Whatever don't use the calculator you are using to figure out your square feet. At those dimensions you are 672 Sq feet plus your alcove. :lol_hitti

Thanks for your help. I am well versed on how to calculate square footages - the 607 is correct the dimensions are an approximation if I had to tell you the dimensions acurately it would take a full page.

The previous owner of my house sprayed accoustical stuff on the sheetrock ceiling.

They didn't do a very good job overall, IMHO. I think their main goal was to cover up a poor sheetrocking job. I've left it alone so far because it would be such a PITA to tear down and do right...

I just installed a drop ceiling in my garage that I bought from Lowe's...only, it isn't dropped! Lowe's has a new grid system - the grid pieces are plastic & screw right to the ceiling joists...then, you can use either 2x2 or 2x4 panels (same panels used in regular drop ceilings)...I know, I know...I'll try to get photos tomorrow!
