I am trying to figure out when this Columbian vise was made, its a D44.

it looks like these were made for many years I've seen some info from member FMC1959's Vise Info Spreadsheet - Specs & Brochures (can't put link..) and there is one picture of one there

but this vise is different with the hole in the top for the little cutting tool and I think it's older. The vise has been in Phoenix so its not rusted and it was not used much. My dad thinks it may have been found in the house that his dad bought but isn't sure. There are only a few markings on the vise "D44" on the moving jaw (with a little dot below it not sure if that is significant or not). "COLUMBIAN" on one side and "CLEVELAND, O. MADE IN U.S.A." on the other side.
The Drive nut has an "M" on one side and D44-4 on the other side.
The bottom has "44-3" marked on it with what looks like a 1 below it that was stamped in.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. I'll try and add pictures when I have more posts.

I would estimate your vise is circa 1950's, primarily due to the cast-in pipe jaws.

Here's a Columbian Vise page from a 1937 hardware catalog. Note removable pipe jaws on mechanic's vise in upper right corner.

Thanks notlob,

I have not see those old ads yet, I wonder if there is a difference between the 44 and D44 and when that came about. It looks like the 1937 ad shows the 44 with removable pipe jaws but it also has the drive screw exposed. The weight of 28 lbs shown in the ad is only over by one pound of the vise I have. The D43 1/2 from the first add looks really close but the weight is 11 lbs under. Do you think the D44 with a 4 in jaw would weigh 11 lbs more than the 43 1/2 with the 3.5 in jaw?

I wasn't allowed to post pics when I first posted so I put a link to the another post I made in the vise thread.
