My shop has 2 sections to it...the work space, and the place where I park my truck and has a storage lift. There is a 10x10 or so space between the two sections I want to put a divider in so I can keep the work space well air conditioned. Opening the big door to get the truck in and out is killing the climate. Right now this is the only opening between the two and there is only one entrance door and its on the truck side.

Anyone have any suggestions on a divider? I'd love sliding doors like an entrance door at Walmart but they are going to be way expensive. Rytech fast garage doors are sweet too but $5k which is way out of the budget. Commercial glass with a couple swinging doors? Have no idea the cost of that.

You can see the open section in the wall on the right side of the picture. This is the dividing space between the two areas.

We use PVC fabric curtains to keep certain areas conditioned in the shop. This would likely look a little tacky in your garage compared to a manufacturing facility, but it works well.

Thanks,

Have you considered a "sliding barn door" (multi-panel)? You could build these from G1S Ply. or Masonite on a 2x lumber frame filled with Styrofoam and some creative latching with weather stripping. that would give you an impressive wall space for some garage themed art/mural work. That with 1 panel with a walk through door, widows could be added anytime money/desire strikes. Harry

How often do you need to move big things between the spaces? How about closing it up and using a standard door?

I went to joanne's fabric and bought some of their heaviest clear plastic. I cut it into 10-12 in wide strips. I hung it in the doorway w/ about a 1 to 1.5 inch overlap for each piece. for my test fit I used the longest staples my gun would hold. Since the staples just went into the drywall, once it proved to work, I got a piece of 1x2 and screwed it over the staples w/ a screw about each 6-8 inches and long enough to get into the wood header..After the first month, pushing the plastic a bit so a gap opened became so automatic I never even notice I do it. Been there for 4.5 years and still working.

Here's my "pocket door" divider - old door sourced from Habitat ReStore, bit of scrap wood to size it out and some barn door hardware from Tractor Supply.

Thanks for the suggestions...

DG - The PVC strips was my original thought from working in a grocery store many years ago.
Monza Harry - Barn Door was my next thought. I have one side of the wall that could slide a whole door.
Gotham - we end up going back and forth a couple times a day. We are actually using the shop for an online business right now.
Craig - thanks...didnt know Joannes sold plastic.
Falcon - the barn door may work. I'll have to see about a design to work with an easy in and out.
ScottsGT - any clue on the costs of those?

I added some eyelets to a tarp, installed a cable for it to run on. I heat and cool the shop side of my garage, makes all the difference in the world. I use to make my wife leave her Highlander outside when it was hot, now it doesn't matter.
