Need help dtermining garage size

First post on here after reading quite a bit over the past few weeks.

I am looking to add a garage with living space in it as well. Total sq ft of the floor has to be less than 1150 and the only way I talked the wife into this was giving her a "liveable" type space so I have a few ideas right now.

1. 24x46x12. 24x24 for the garage and 24x22 for liveable.
2. 24x40x14. 24x28 for the garage and 24x12 left for liveable with some sort of loft up above. Still unsure of attic or scissor trusses.

Garage is for normal vehicle storage and a little bit of woodworking equipment.

Any help or ideas are appreciated! Trying to get the most bang for my buck.

The attic trusses can relocate the living space above the garage if you can finagle the wife's approval.

Mine is 28x36 w/ a kick out art room for my wife, 16x20. Light storage in 8’ attic. Large outside slab for additional or oversized projects. This helps a lot. KCould be rented as a home, shower,sauna,john,shop sink, nat. gas hang down htr.
I have room for entertaining, permanent vehicle work, beer brewing, 220 welding, forging etc. Added pop in glazing to both O.H. doors and leave the doors up during the day. They face south and I get great light and free heat.
Would I like more room? Of course. I use outbuildings for less frequently used stationary tools and steel, wood inventory. We’re i to do it over I would design the garage as a pull thru. Extend the roof overhang to 3’ due to pile up of snow.
I would also use in slab hydronic heat in the whole building, now just her studio.

The "livable" space will be included in the barn. I have narrowed it down to what I think are my three best options.
1. 24x46x14 with scissor style trusses for loft area above the 24x22 "livable" space and regular trusses for garage side.
2. 24x40x14 with attic trusses on "livable" side.
3. 24x46x12.

All depending on quotes. I'm worried about the price and quantity of attic or scissor style trusses. Looking to stay around the 15k mark.

Are you height-restricted? My barn has a full loft that could easily be living space. Check out barnplans.com for ideas. Bear in mind that their barns can be built to any length desired. Mine is 28X48, but could be longer or shorter as needed. By barn is 27' tall, but I have 12+' ceilings on the lower level.

24' depth is a bit shallow for doing work on a full size truck. My 95 F250 super cab long bed is 22' long. Crew cab is even longer. I pull that into my 30x40 garage and it dwarfs the space.

I'd go for 28x40 (1120 sq ft) with 'room in attic' trusses. Give her most of the upstairs and a parking space in the garage. You then get some storage space in the attic and can pull her car out when working on a project.

I think your $15k budget may be a bit light. I am just about done putting up my 30x40x12 stick built and I am about $30k into it. Thats a 6" concrete slab, 2x6 studded walls, (2) 9x9 doors on the front, a 6x7 door on the back, entry door, couple windows, vinyl siding, and architectural shingles. The concrete/foundation work alone was $9900. You could do a pole barn and pour the slab at a later date when funds become available. Pole barns can be vinyl sided and shingled to match the house.

Might want to check with your wife and get a definitive list of what livable means. And then run that by the code people in your area, some places won't let you install sewer or water to accessory structures as part of zoning regulations and code requirements.

I am planning on 24' wide and garage depth will be subtracted from the length. I also have a lifted 20' long truck that I am trying to accommodate. We have an attached two car for our daily drivers. Still unsure on attic trusses or a taller height for a loft area.
