Inspector is coming tommorow and I need help. I stripped a lug in my meter base and had to replace it when I was replacing my siding. The old meter and wiring was circa 1950 and this new one needs to be inspected to get power turned back on. My question is the ground. The old meter base had the ground from the ground rod running to the meter base instead of the service panel. Do I need a ground at my service panel if I have one at the meter base. If so, can I splice it to the ground wire through the meter base or ???
Need help quick!

You really need to call the inspector and ask him what you need to do: I've seen that question answered about four different ways in different jurisdictions...

I have properties in two jurisdictions. One requires the meter base to be grounded and the other requires the panel to be grounded. One thing that they have in common is that the ground wire must be one piece and two ground rods must be used. The ground wire goes from the origin (meter or panel) to one ground rod, to the other ground rod and back to the origin. No splices are permitted in the wire. Your mileage may vary.

The grounding electode conductor location is a PoCo issue as some will not allow them in the meter can (Like PG&E here) & others want them there....

Thanks to all who responded, I'm going to call the inspector tomorrow to re-schedule. I will also ask him/her the prefered method for my county. They charge here if they have to re-inspect so I want it to pass the first time around.
