Need help finding a bolt

I’m having difficulty finding a specific type of bolt. I am looking for an M12 flat head that uses Torx instead of an Allen key. It needs to be 8.8 or 12.0.

The M12s are used to hold the transfer case skid on my Jeep. I feel the torx bit will be less likely to strip out than the Allen head.

If anyone know of a source , please let me know.

these are 12 point 12 mm 1.75 pitch. There is also a 12 mm fine pitch that is used sometimes. These are coarse. Technically they are 12 point and not torx. 12.9 hardness https://www.belmetric.com/12mm-12point-c-2_1989_1993/

An M12 flat head uses an 8mm key (hex). That's pretty big to be stripping out unless it gets rusted in place. May want to use antiseize under the flat and loctite on the threaded portion....Flathead screw has a large contact area which, if seized by rust can overwhelm the torque capacity of the internal hex...same as button head but you get a slightly deeper hex on a buttonhead.

Unless you can confirm the included angle is 82 deg I think I'd be looking for OEM parts even if it means paying dealer prices.

This is an after market flat belly up skid. I feel should own stock in anti seize. Sadly, I just had one strip out even though I don’t tighten to spec and use lots of anti seize. It had to be a total fluke since all the others came out perfectly. I had to weld a sacrificial hex bit in it. Luckily it worked. Just don’t want to repeat.

on my cj they used square nuts and migged them. They never stripped - migs broke though on occasion. Also they used slide on retainers that bolts or screws went into.

Metric are normally 90*.

Torx will really **** if you hit any kind of rocks. But then again theres no real good fastener design that going to be real good on a skid plate that sees use.

If you live in road salt country, just throw stainless flatheads in with antiseize. They'll never rust, so the hex should never get buggered.

Have you looked on Mcmaster

They have stainless versions also. No sure if I understand the head you want correctly.

Correct. The countersunk. McMaster list them as Flat Heads.

the holes are countersunk...and the fastener are flat head.

metric are 90deg....sae are 82deg

allen head 12mm 10.9. Buy extra and replace them when they start to ****** up.
