Yeah I know what your going to say invest in a S/O or high quality box. But it is a little different at my work. I work in manufacturing and only need in the toolbox when a problem arises or possibly preventive maintenance. My work supply's some tools but usually not what you need at the time. Most at my work have the cheapest Craftsman box which is what I have been watching, but is there an alternative. I'm trying to bide my time but need tools in the mean time and nowhere to keep them.

yeah that would work if cheap enough. I would like for it to be secured and not mobile (Thieves). I have trust issues after having my tools stolen before.

One of the guys that worked for me piled his tools in a cardboard box
and wrote CRAPSMAN on the side of it. I thought it was hilarious.
Not suggesting that but if you dont have alot of tools one of those roll around
suitcase type might work.

Watch Clist but I think you are going to take a bit of a drive because HF will have the best value for you IMO.
If you want more stationary then you have a couple options. Leave the wheels on it and weld a loop to the back so you can chain and lock it to something.
Or remove the wheels and build a skid for it. That way it is stationary but you could move it to where you are working with a forklift if need be

You could also step up from the cardboard box and put something together from plywood, hinges and a lock hasp.

Home Depot or Lowes has some at reasonable prices. The very best deal would probably be had on Craigslist.

Home Depot in my area had clearance sale a few months ago and I bought this box for $164 out the door. Best deal I've found in years!

Shop around. There are deals to be had. You just gotta dig one up.

I actually really like my Kobalt (Lowes) top box for the price I paid for it. I purchased the bottom box but had to return it because it wasn't wide enough for my tools.

I'm thinking if you have to buy a box and tools and have to worry about the whole thing walking away, its time for a new job. Shouldn't be your concern in a manufacturing place. Unless you're making hand over fist money. Which by the sounds of this thread.. I doubt it..

The reason I'm being picky is I had a different job in the plant and stored my tools in a locked plastic tool box near my work area. Every operator from each shift stored there tool boxes on the shelf. I came in one day and my tools were gone so were the other operators on my shift. The company replaced them but some were given to me from my dad which were irreplaceable. The company found out who it was (one of the Maintenance guys) and fired him.

So why are you still there? And don't give us that "there's no other jobs" or "I cant do anything else"

Why would I quit a job that has a thief. The company took care of it, fired him and replaced my tools. I'm just having trust issues now. Besides what looks more enticing to a thief, a brand new shiny S/O tool box or a small off brand tool box. I don't think any of the maintenance crew we have now would take anything. When I first started I had alot of cheap tools and (besides the tools my dad give me) didn't mind so much. But now have aquired better quality tools. Sorry I like my tools.

whatever box you buy scratch up the paint, give it a few smacks with a hammer to add some dents, and smear some grease/dirt/blood/etc on it

and make sure it has decent locks

Need more info...

What size are you looking at. You said your tools were in a plastic tool box, so do you need something bigger? Just a top box, just a bottom? 26"? 44", or bigger?

What is your budget? $500 is very different from $2500, which is very different from $150. They all have different answers.

Does it need to be stationary, or does it have to be something you can carry. Would a cart work?

Here's my solution from the limited information we were given to this point. I would get a $99 or $159 cart from Harbor Freight, AND a new carry tool box for places the cart won't go. When you go home chain the carry tool box to the cart and lock the cart. If they're stealing that...find a better place of employment.

Thats what I was kinda thinking. I have acquired more tools and so they all don't fit in the plastic tool box. the size would be just a top or cart.

Are you actually going to tell us where you are, or just that it's far away from every box store?

I have an older (not like antique, like early '00s and still decent quality) Husky 40" 2-bay combo I have next to nothing invested in, and no real need nor room for. Right now it's still holding all the shop tools at the shop I no longer work at... I've pretty much decided to not really make an effort to sell it since it can sit right where it is for now, but if I can help a guy out and not have to worry about storing it one day, I'd be down with that.

I have a ton of boxes, tools, etc. I think I've been more than generous on this and other forums, as have MANY others. I'm so tired of people coming on here crying a sob story, providing little to NO INFORMATION, and expecting assistance. Man th F up, fill out your frickin profile and I'm absolutely positive someone here will help you. Hell, I'd send you a damn box if i had any frickin clue where you exist!
