Tired of sun coming in from backside of helmet and causing glare. Hats and bandanas help, but not the cat's meow.

Looking for a nape, like the BIG RED welding helmet Nape....but it appears only available in Australia. http://www.elliottaustralia.com/BRN20/The-BIG-RED-Welding-Helmet-Nape/pd.php

Anyone know of local in the 48 to get one?

EDIT: BTW....I don't want a full hood that you wear under the helmet. Too damn hot welding in Palm Springs sun....

Stooge, no, the bib goes under the helmet chin- (like a baby bib for food). And it would be too small to adapt to the back.

I have not seen anything commercial here in the U.S. for what you want. The one at this link is for a hardhat instead of a welding hood, but sounds like what you are trying to find. You may have to make one yourself or have it made. My wife could probably make a few for a welding hood out of the green fire resistant cloth or denim and attach Velcro strips. You would need to glue the matching strips to your hood. I will see what she says.

Edit: You may also make this one work:

Thanks for all the comments guys. It strikes me as odd that these aren't more common here.:headscrat

I know plenty of welders that have to deal with glare...especially the ones building outdoor structures.

I have been in a lot of welding supply stores and they all have had them. If they don't they know where to get one. I dont' know why any welder would put up with the sun or splatter. If you watch old movies from the 30 through the 60's you will see the leather protection head gear once in a while. I think one was used in a 3 stooges episode. ****** hell they are easy to get. I have the 3M version and I got it at a Farm Co-op store that carried welding supplies and that was 33 years ago.

We have AIRGAS and California Welding Supply out here, but the ones they have are the complete hood, which is way too hot, and then they have bandanas. I'll ask to see their catalog next week and see what they have.

I found the 1st one I posted from Au on ebay...but now I can't find it again. It was around 40 bucks...but I do not recall s&h.

Dave, did you ever have any luck in finding a Big Red Welding Helmet Nape? I am 66 years old and have a terrible problem with glare from the side or back. I made a makeshift nape out of a back leaf bag and masking tape. It really helps a lot in seeing the weld puddle.

I checked one dealer in Australia and the Nape is $45.90 (Australian) but the shipping and handling is over $30.00! I may try to find some leather and make one.

I was going to suggest making one, I have some leather working supplies.
I'm wondering if you could attach snap grommets to the helmet and leather to snap it on and off ? Maybe velcro would be a better option ?
