Need help finding Torx screwdriver set.

Hi, This is my first post here. I joined because I need your guy's help finding some tools.

I'm a automotive painter and use Torx screwdrivers very often to remove trim parts. Right now I'm using a set of Snap-on hard handle torx drivers and I'm happy with them except, I need a set of torx drivers that have hex bolsters.

Last week I had to drill out a pair of torx screws from a tail light because they where too tight for a screwdriver and too deep for my torx sockets to reach.

I need a quality set. Ive checked all the normal brands: Craftsman pro, Snap-on, Williams, Kobalt, pratt-read, cornwell etc.

Does anyone know of a set that has hex bolsters??

I'd just get a set of long Torx socket drivers and use a ratchet when you need more torque:

If they'll fit for some of the trim work you do, I'll second these. I just bought several sizes I need. The prices can be very good, from time to time lately, on amazon. How long those low prices will last, I don't know.

I use mainly SO, but these are the equal of them, and probably better. Definitely better finish.

If you need a Bolster for a wrench why not just get a set of 1/4 hex bits and a ratchet.

Wera drivers are pretty awesome, I have a set. But it sounds like you need a long reach bit socket set if you really need to put some torque on it.

I have a long torx socket set from SK. There are 6 and 10? pc. sets available from a multitude of retailers online.

Felo (and Wiha?) make long torx bits for drivers, would probably fit a 1/4" socket for more torque if needed.

...but there are long 1/4 hex extensions. Maybe it's too tight for that, also.

They have the same problem -- thick shafts, with a reduced diameter just before the tip.

They won't work in many places Torx screws are used -- deeply recessed screw holes. The holes are invariably just large enough for the screw head. A large shaft won't work, let along a 1/4" hex extension.

I have used the Gearwrench set from Amazon quite a bit this last month - putting some torque on the middle sizes without a problem.

I really like my Wera ones. Oddly, since they have the same handles, I seem to prefer my wera Torx more than the normal screwdrivers.

pro painter, not sure what you've got there but snap on torx screwdrivers do have hex bolsters, theres a few tamper resistant without the bolster, but the majority of snap on torx s/drivers do have hex bolster, or am i missing something here.

That's what I get for listening to the snap-on truck guy. My (old) set is very old. Early to mid 90's orange hard handles. I believe they are considered them "mini" toxr drivers. Either way they don't have the hex bolsters.

I received a PM from someone (maybe you?) explaining about the new Snap-on's not long after I started this thread. I ordered the 9pc soft handle set and received them today. They are stunning! Nice long shafts, very nice handles, and the hex bolsters that I needed. I also picked them up for a great deal on ebay for $89 + $7 shipping.


The reason I wanted handle drivers over long torx sockets is simple. Less tools to carry around. Some cars have 40+ of the same size torx screws and maybe only 1 or 2 will need the extra torque. This way all I got to do is carry a 3/8" wrench in my back pocket. Simple, quick and easy.
