I have a refurb Bosch Hammerdrill 1199VSR that I picked up on CPO.com and it quit on me today. I was using it with some nice Spider carbide tipped hole saws that I bought to drill through a brick wall. I got through one wall, but when I went to start on the second, the drill wouldn't start at all. It had gotten a little hot and I felt I was pushing my luck, but I had been taking short breaks to give it a rest.

Anyhow, I know there have been some issues with the drill and I even read a comment on Amazon describing a common problem and how to replace the 'adapter module' - I also previously bought a couple of 'switch contacts' because I they were cheap and I think I read they can go bad too.

I followed the description on the Amazon site in taking the drill apart. I inspected the bushings as I was going - one is pretty warn down, but I think is still usable, the other has plenty of wear left in it. I think the semi-circular switch contacts look OK, as do the wires and connections from the variable speed trigger switch.

I removed the three Torx screws holding the two halves of the housing together, but I can't get the middle metal 'bearing bracket' off. I can pull the whole thing forward, away from the plastic motor housing, but it will only budge about 1/8". The motor turned freely, as did the small central gear in the bearing bracket, but it doesn't turn at all once I have the bearing bracket pulled out. I almost wonder if something in the motor broke and is keeping the whole thing from coming apart and from turning when I try to pull the bracket and housing apart.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm about to go buy another, beefier drill to get my project done, but would still like to fix this thing.

Above are links to a 4 part video on how to dismantle and service a Bosh GBH 2-xxxx series rotary hammer drill. In my case it was a GBH 2-26DRE. I was in the same same predicament as you until I found this video. The selector shaft has to be removed before the unit comes apart.

BTW The original video was in an Asian (Vietnamese??) language. The English
translation is poor but after watching it a few times I was able to interpret what he was saying.

Hope this will help you

Thanks for that erswill. The problem I'm having is the step right at 4:10 min in video GBH 2-26 E Part 2: Stator - Armature ENG, where pulls the armature out of the plastic motor housing. Mine won't budge more than that 1/8". Something must be royally messed up or melted together in the motor itself - I can't figure out why else it wouldn't just pull out. It's so easy and effortless in this video.
