need help from the hydro gurus!

ok guys my dad runs a 90-95hp kubota 4x4 enclosed tractor doing side work bush hogging commercial lots. he pulls a 16ft bushhog for them but during hunting season he runs a 7fter to do his shooting lanes at the camp. this year he ran into a problem with the hydros. picking up is no problem, its getting them down. he has been doing this for about 10 yrs and never had a problem until this year. other than the 7ft just not having the weight why would it be so slow to drop?

he wanted me to look on some tractor forums but they seem to be few and far between and sure dont have any real activity. GJ has become my new home even over my car forums!

Don't know about your specific model, but most tractors have a speed of drop knob or lever near the operators seat. It regulates the oil flow from the lift cylinder to compensate for implement weight. Check the owners manual.

- as mentioned, check the drop rate knob.
- check that all hydro lines are fully connected (especially quick release fittings)
- does this still happen when PTO shaft is disconnected (bent/damaged PTO shaft)

i called him just a bit ago and told him about the know idea. he said there is one but he just thought it was for seat adjustment. he had the windows tinted last year or 2 yrs ago so some jackass may have messed with something.

I ran into the same problem on my father's tractor. A hired hand also thought the knob was for seat adjustment. On the John Deere, it's called a "rate-of-drop" knob or valve.

KenC- thanks! that was exactly the problem. dad went to mow yesterday and he messed with the knob and all of a sudden it came back to him that he had turned it a long time ago thinking it was some sort of seat adjustment to smooth out the bumps.

problem solved yet again by the GJ folks...by far my favorite forum!

I have seen problems like this on my friends fathers tractor (also a kubota but smaller by the sounds) Most cases it was a loose quick coupler and a couple times it was the linkage from the lever to the pump/valve under the fender in the back. I would find the pin had fallen out or something like that. other than that sounds like the valve that controls SOD is sticking.
