It has the following markings. It looks old with mild surface rust and no OSHA or DOT tag. I've cracked the valve and it has contents, but I don't think they are Argon. They have a stink like a combustible gas.

70C-8

S185572-83

ARCO

10-77SF

1T53

I've watched a few YouTubes but my numbers don't match up with the videos I've seen.

I want to use it for 75/25 shield gas for my Lincoln SR-200 MIG welder.

This is the best photo I have at the moment.

Thanks, Jimbottle.jpg

Just bring it to your gas supplier. They will tell you what you have and if testing is in date. Almost every place just swaps tanks when you refill so it’s unlikely you will even get this tank back or use i my ever again. If it is out of date for a pressure test there is usually just an additional small charge when they give you the swapped out tank. No need to try and decipher anything on that tank.

Thank you kmacht. That puts my mind at ease. Some providers may be different. I saw a YouTube that said that Thoroughbread
does not accept cylinders without the tag on it.

If you mean the same Thoroughbred that does the TSC program, they don't accept other labels. Your local welding supply MIGHT.
I used to do the Thoroughbred, until they stopped it at my local TSC. The local welding place was more than happy to take the Thoroughbred tanks however!

Look at the valve for a CGA number and post that. We can give you an idea what was in it ( whether it was an oxidizer or not, or a dangerous gas).

Hi Guys, thanks for all the information. I took the cylinder to a welding supply house and it turns out that the cylinder is for acefylline so the supply house didn't want anything to do with it. I'm going to give it back to the friend who gave it to me and that is that. Thanks again.
