need help identifying brake

Hello. I'm looking for help identifying the manufactor of a brake i recently purchased. Theres no name or i.d. plate on it that i can find, and i've never seen another quite like it. The whole top raises straight up to allow "I" beam shaped fingers to be installed, instead of the one piece upper die in the pic.

Definitely not Chicago, I have two and all through the years the design barely changed.
Could be a Whitney Jensen maybe......

Thanks for the replies. Theres no raised lettering anywhere on it. I have a few freinds that have chicago's and they are quite different than this one. I did try to find something similar with Whitney Jenson, but no luck, so the search goes on.

Looks like a Dreis and Krump. The holes in the top don't look factory, but all of the castings and the sheet metal legs are identical to an older D&K

those are socket head cap screws. It may be a Whitney, and it may be a Dake.

If you don't mind saying....how much?

Thanks for the help. The holes in the top are definitly factory. They are there to get access to the bolts for the top die clamp. As far as price goes, i did some trading for it. I'll post up some pics of the other set of upper dies tomorrow, maybe that will help with identifying it.

I could possibly be a Pexto make. Just judging on the color. Either way it is a nice one.

raddksn lol thanks for the offer, but i think i'll just keep looking for myself. This one will be replacing another brake that i have right now. Not sure about Pexto, i have a few pieces of pexto equipment, and the all have pexto cast into them.

Just to keep the confusion going, the colors are the same as or similar to all of the DiAcro stuff that I have. However, the finger attachment is way different from any thing I have.

I finally had time to look it over good today, and what i thought was a washer, was actually the i.d. tag. It was covered in paint, but i was able to clean it off with a wire brush. It is a Chicago size W4. Here are some pics of the other upper dies for it also. Thanks again for the help.

So it is a Dreis and Krump..............I have never seen fingers attach like that on a D&K.

Well I stand corrected!

This has to be a custom machine made for a specific purpose during WWII.
I have never seen a another Chicago like it.

Can you please post pic's of the ends of the machine?

I think maybe it was made for a deep box, that's the only thing I can think off.......

It's definitly different than any of the chicago brakes i've seen before, which is why i couldn't i.d. it at first. Not sure if it can be i.d. by the serial # 49160 of the size W4. I'll get some pics of the end this week, it has some things that i'm not sure what they are for, but they are factory for sure. Thanks

Very cool piece. The legs and some of the castings are the same as my W31, but that's definitely a different breed of cat.

It might say chicago but I think pexto made those for chicago and others. We have a similar one at the shop and it has the peck, stow, and wilcox tag on it still along with the chicago tag.

Are those dies made out of pieces of rail track? Looks like a nice machine.

When I posted above, I didn’t realize how many different bending brakes Dreis & Krump actually made, they even made custom machines………

I would contact Dreis & Krump, they’re still in business, they might have info on these old brakes?
