I have an area that I want to make into a welding corner for my torches, Tig and Mig welder. So far I have rounded up a tubeaxial fan (12") with a variable speed drive that I am going to connect to a hood. The ceiling is 8' tall with open TGI joists (has lofted storage above), 5/8" drywall on the walls, with a gray epoxy floor. The floor area I have available is in a corner 5' deep on the right wall (a short wall before a wide doorway) and 11' on the back wall (adjoined on the right side by a roll-up door). The corner opens to the larger shop. Power is right behind the bench.
I thought about putting either the welders or bench in the corner, putting the hood over the welding area (my present hood is about 24" deep and 42" wide down to the 12" diameter). I could extend the hood downward (one book recommends just above the height of the tallest welder). The hood could go in the corner.
I thought about some fireproofing on the ceiling (sodium silicate, drywall, etc) and perhaps putting sheet metal or corrugated roofing on the walls. My dad's old shop had concrete block walls which were great.
Benches, fixtures, and lighting are my biggest concerns. Pictures and ideas would be appreciated.
