First off I will say that I'm by no means a craftsman, but I will try to supply all the pertinent information. The wife picked up a wooden dresser off of Craigslist that was made by a local unfinished wood furniture store. The dresser has three drawers, and only two of them will slide out. The top drawer had the bearings missing from the slide, and it would fall out if you pulled it out too far. I can't just replace the one slide now because I tried to "fix" it previously. Now the cabinet depth is 21 3/16 inch and the drawer depth is 17 5/16 inch. I go down the the local Menards to purchase 2 new center mount slides. Then I'm hit with the first obstacle. According to the chart supplied by Hickory Hardware I need either a 20 inch slide for the depth of the cabinet, or an 18 inch slide for the depth of the drawer. So I called Hickory customer service and the only helpful information that I was able to get out of them is that it should leave a 1/2 inch space at either end of the slide so that the drawer will close properly. Previously I had tried to use a 20 inch slide and the drawer would not close all the way. I didn't know if it was because I did not leave the proper gap, or if I was doing something else wrong. Any help would be appreciated before I try to "fix" the dresser again. I know it's not a hard fix, but I just have no experience. Thank you.
