Need help locating wrench set.

I let my irresponsible brother borrow these 2 KR Tools Stubby Offset Ring (Box End) Wrench Sets. He lost some of the wrenches and I told him to get me replacement sets. Does anyone know where he can pick these up. A Google search did not help. Thanks, Mike

I have that same set, they are really nice wrenches for the price. Got mine for $45 a few years ago.

Mike, my advice, try not to be snarky, just give your irresponsible brother the wrench sets. When/if he finds what he lost, he’ll have his own sets and won’t ask to borrow again. Looks like you won’t be out of pocket a crazy amount.

Then replace these with something better. Just a few ideas: maybe I’m a wrench snob. Grown to really love my Snap On FD+ wrenches. But I have and use Taiwan stubby combo ratchets. Mine are bluepoint, but Harbor Freight offers something similar.

I’m a little taken aback by the price of these. The non ratcheting versions are cheaper, and they offer cheaper still Pittsburgh branded models.

Point is, I don’t love ratcheting wrenches for automotive, but I find these ratcheting stubbies have a lot of utility for low torque, low stress, high clearance stuff around the house. Think about replacing your stubbies with something a bit better. Don’t try to replace the individuals in this low value set.

It's your brother. If you hate him, why are you lending him tools? If you like him, chalk it up to an annoyance. If he is in you life, I'm sure you will do something eventually that will cost him a few bucks. Everyone makes mistakes.

Why would someone offer up something completely different than what the OP is asking for? These are Double Box End, fairly deep offset, not ratcheting. The only similarity is that they are stubby. Not a replacement at all...

You are assuming because he had stubby offsets, he chose them because he needed stubby offset DBEs. I’m assuming our new member chose these because they were the absolute cheapest wrenches he could find at Walmart.

Years of reading GJ has informed me that people don’t always ask the right question to get the help they need. They benefit from the discussion of options and alternatives they may not have thought to ask about.

This is like when people ask for subanel wire suggestions for 100A and everyone says "Just use MHF and 90A, it's good enough" or "My welder can be run off of 14ga wire and a 50A breaker" on a thread about hardwiring heaters. Sometimes people just want the answer to the question they asked, not what someone else thinks is best for them.

You are right. I was frustrated when I posted this. I love him but he has had to buy me several tools over the years because he has lost them or left them in the rain. Will probably stop lending him my tools.

Good advice AEAdam. I picked these up new about 15 years ago and as cheap as they sold for the wrenches had nice chrome and fit well. I also liked having 12 sizes in a compact holder. May have to consider the other options. Thanks.

Inexpensive wrenches like this are always sold in sets. The only way you(your brother) will find individual replacements is on the secondary market and buying onesies twosies will kill you with shipping charges, if you can find them.

perhaps that company also makes SAE versions. Do you really need stubbys?

Gotta take it on the chin for the brother but I'd pass the remains of those sets to the brother so those empty slots can remind him instead of you.

I guess the irony of your criticism of my post about wrenches is lost on you guys. Neither of you have offered the OP anything about wrenches. I searched and couldn’t find replacements and that’s why I suggested alternatives.

Thanks Mike. Looks like they were made in Czech Republic, so not surprised they were better than their price indicates. We have members from there and they often report they get lucky with tools from there.

Looks like they are still in business. I found KR wrenches on Amazon, but not these particular models as I’m sure you also discovered.

Last piece of I unrequested advice (last post): when shopping for short tools, remember internal stresses are generally going to be lower, so in my opinion, you don’t need the best quality to have a useful tool. Short ratchets and wrenches don’t need the best steel. Shorty wrenches do need to fit well tho. A little slop on a 19mm isn’t terrible, but the same slop on a 8mm renders the tool almost unusable. You may not be happy with China versions, but I’m guessing you might be happy with Taiwan.
