I'm working on a few screwdrivers for my box but am trying to make them a bit more versitile.

The major concern is that I want drivers with demovable shafts/interchangable shafts. Pretty common BUT, I also want a "T-" handle and the only driver I've found to allow that is a POS Craftsman evolv driver that is just not comfortable to use, look at, store, etc...

Dies anyone know what the female, metal, hex "sockets" or hex "ports" (Maybe even sleeve or shaft) are called and where to buy um'? I tried to find something at McMaster-Carr and, well...found more than I would ever be looking for. The look hex inside and out but, nothing much I've really seen.

Pics to *try* and give ya an idea. I only want the metal part that the nut-driver (or other bit) slides in TO.

Hopefully someone's got an idea. I'm sure they've gotta be out there.

They sell bits that have hex on one side and 1/4" drive on the other. You could use that to make a homemade handle.

McMaster-Carr would be the first place I'd look too. If they don't have anything of interest I don't know where you'd go next?

I looked around McMaster but I have no idea what it would be called. I leafed through the Grainger catalog last night hoping it would spark some ideas, I'll pull out my McMaster catalog tonight and hopefully find something that will direct me to what those would be. I can't imagine that they are too unique or rare.

That was my second or third idea but I was *hoping* someone here would know of the specific piece of hardware I could purchase. If I use a bit extension, it would be easier for it to break loose in the handle since they are round. The insert it the handle posted is hex shaped wich, my guess, helps keep it from rounding out the cheap, POS handle.

I also thought about harvesting the parts from this handle but, when I screw up what I'm working on, I would be out the "good" parts I want...My fab skills are quite lackluster so I'm hoping garth 'll get back to me...
