I need to find replacement bearings for my model 100 Drill press.
The bearings are.
Norma XF121PP Craftsman #18211 Quill bearings
Hoover ZZ205 Craftsman #18212 pulley Bearings

Cant seem to find a cross reference.
Think the XF121PP is a 6202ZZ bearing because of this link http://wiki.vintagemachinery.org/ReplacementBearingListCraftsman.ashx

How about the ZZ205. Is it a 6205ZZ?
Some sites show this bearing as 15mm inner bore, some 5/8" inner bore(almost 16mm) and some show 16mm bore.
I need a 5/8" inner bore.
This site shows 15mm
http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/15mm/6202-2RS

Think this bearings is the one I need though.
http://bearingsdirect.com/6202-2RS-16mm-Special-Size-Ball-Bearing-16x35x11.html

Then there is this site that shows 5/8" bore.:willy_nil
http://www.thebigbearingstore.com/servlet/the-442/6202-dsh-2RS-5-fdsh-8-Radial-Ball/Detail

I am surprised that this old DP uses metric bearings.

Anyone changed the bearings in their model 100???

Thanks, Alan

After some careful measuring of the Spindle shaft and pulley shaft I determined that I need a 25mm ID bearing for the Pulley and 5/8" ID for the spindle/quill shaft.

Ordered these.
http://www.thebigbearingstore.com/servlet/the-442/6202-dsh-2RS-5-fdsh-8-Radial-Ball/Detail for the spindle

And these
http://www.thebigbearingstore.com/servlet/the-426/6205-dsh-2RS-6205-dsh-ZZ-Radial-Ball/Detail for the pulley

I will post back and report how they work out.
Had no idea that metric bearing could be ordered with a fractional ID.

"... join the Old Woodworking Machines site. It is an odd site to negotiate, but if you do it correctly there is a separate site attached, that you must join before you can reach the forum parts of the site allowing you access to the buy and sell sections for both metalworking and woodworking machines. You will know you are at the right place when you see the "BOYD" section which stands for Bring out your dead. Essentially the part of the forum which allows you to buy, sell, and trade used machines and attachments and machinery related parts etc. So that is two separate joinings to get where you need to be over there.

Also, if you join make sure you NEVER DISCUSS ANY CHEAP IMPORT MACHINES, OR NEW MACHINES. That kind of discussion will get you kicked off of that site, the only machines, attachments and tooling discussed on that site is old quality usually USA made machines, attachments and tooling. I bet someone can help you find what you need there. I have gotten several parts for machinery restorations from that site. It is great. You might get away with discussing any age Baldor grinder as I think most are still USA made." anonymous

Go to a bearing supply house with your old ones and tell them you want the best that matches, those little numbers identify the bearing, easy to match

Subscribed for the resto! Looking forward to the new bearings going in.

Thanks for following.

I will not have the rebuild of the machine in this thread. I will probably start a thread when the DP is almost finished. It is not going to be a super shiny like yours.

It is going to be a very unique DP. It will be built like no other I have ever seen on the forum.

Right now I am trying to remove all the rust from the column. Wish I had a lathe to spin it on like you did. I am using a acid rust dissolver. I scrub down the shaft with a scotch brite, put the acid on and let it sit. Clean off the acid after 10 min and scrub again with the scotch brite. I have been doing this all night.
Need sothing to do untill the bearings get here.

The top main casting is setting all clean inside of the blast cabinet. It will all be painted Pepsi Blue. Not original but I like the color:D

for the column rust: oil and a wire wheel cup on a mini grinder (Light touch, doesn't need a lot of pressure), but its messy!

Installed the bearings linked in post #2 today.
All went well. The machine is still missing the motor so did not use. the spindle and pulley turn just fine and feel like they should now.
The pulley bearings fit just as well as you would expect.

The old spindle bearings would slide by hand down the 5/8" shaft. The new bearings, one would slide and the other would not. These are Chinese bearings so thinking it is just a variation in the manufacturing. Used the press in order to avoid bending the fragile spindle shaft with a hammer. Bearing pressed down the shaft with very little effort but took forever with the close to 2 foot shaft with a manual press.
Guess i could have put the quill with installed bearings in the oven then dropped the cool shaft into the quill.

I don't foresee any issues with these bearings.

I have 2 of the factory craftsman 1/2 hp motors but both have cracked bases where they mount to the DP bracket.
I Am thinking that a 1200rpm motor might be a good setup since i don't do any wood work. I have seen all the threads with the 3rd pulley and understand the benefits. Maybe I will add that to my slow speed motor in the future.

This is the best I can find for the money. http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?item=10-2647&catname=electric

I also have a Powermatic 1150 I am building. It is 3 phase 230vac and will get a VFD.

If anyone needs the 1/2 hp craftsman motors, PM me and I will make you a good deal.
