I'm getting ready (hopefully) to start on a 24x36 work shop. The shop is 450 feet from the meter and transformer. The ground is rocky so conduit is a must.

What size and type of wire do I need? From what I'm reading the mobile home service wire can not be used inside of conduit, it become a wet environment, is this correct?

The electric provider will not go more than 200 feet then we are talking additional transformer, wire, meter panel, labor and a price tag of over $8,500.00

Almost forgot.
For my needs I'm looking at 90 amps but would like to be safe and have 125.

That is not correct. MHF can be direct buried or placed in conduit. It does have to be in conduit inside of the structure.

Edit: Oh, I suggest using 4/0-4/0-4/0-2/0 MHF

Not a big fan of Multi-conductor cable in conduit, Direct Burial nor aluminum wiring.

Both seem great when you first crunch the numbers - but cost over time they are real big losers. THHN in PVC Ridged Conduit has been an Industrial / Commercial standard for a pretty long time for a reason

The 4/0 @ 450' with an 80A load should be right at 3% VD and 120A load at about 5% VD. 3% is recommend by the NEC, but 5% should be the max.

Also there is absolutely nothing wrong with using the MHF in conduit and aluminum is used as service feeds by POCO's all the time. For a 450' run copper is going to cost a small fortune. The MHF if installed correctly and in conduit, will last way beyond your life span.

U made a bunch of claims with no evidence or fact to back up your claims.

So why is cable such as MHF a "real big loser"? :dunno:

Diesels right at 90 amps if I have everything running at once, not going to happen though I only have 2 hands.
