Unless the box on the motor has the start/run caps in it, it's a three phase motor.

That's one of the main things I'm trying to figure out before I drive to it. OP said it's not at home so no pics of the motor tag, I'm trying to figure out if it's a three phase motor?

It does look like a three horsepower single phase motor. I don't like what he says about it being slow to pump up. That's a red flag to me.
It looks like a speed air compressor rebranded. Speed air was sold by Graingers. Looking at its age, I doubt parts are available any longer.

The price on the last one is 450, he told me we can write something up because he's still using it in hes body shop until the end of the month, and his wife originally posted it, he bumped up the price since. but he said he'd take the 450 though, I'd have ta get a motor though

if you got this plan on goin through every thing..in the pic you can see bare wires around the pressure swicth and not even want to think about the new low pressre gas lines on it and the motor is prob 5hp muti voltage 3phase wired for 220v

Limited pics

I need help IDing this comnpressor and motor, from what I can tell it's a champion compressor and a 1 ph motor? any help is greatly appreciated! I only have the two pics from the listing, and I googled the info and can't find ****, here's a link to the ad-- http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/bfs/3685221705.html you guys can post the pics for future reference

Here fixed it for you . . . . you can just copy a picture to Paint then save as JPG. I went ahead and posted both the pic and CL ad.

I'm skeptical about this hokie story. See my next post.

If it were my money, I'd stay away from hokie story behind the above $400 (now down to $300) green 1969 compressor.

I'd work on price of the Champion compressor and buy it. Looks like a solid compressor already in running condition. That price of $750 for 80 gallon Champion is pretty good already. Knock price to $600 and jump on it.

A new 5hp Baldor motor would be right around $350 on eBay. I am from Chicago and that compressor was posted over a moth ago. I e-mailed and never heard a thing back. At that price it should have sold already unless there was something wrong with it. I would avoid it if it was me.

I'm just speculating here but if you look at all the piping where the pressure switch hooks up it looks to have been welded to the tank. I say this because it is all black and sooty around it.

There is no mag starter so I sort of think the motor is a 1.5hp or 3hp and that the pump is a Champion R-10b.

No doubt this one is 3 phase, 5hp. If you got it cheap enough that would be a good unit. It is older though probably from the late 80's early 90's.
