Need help! Organization ideas needed...

Hello! HELP!! We moved about two years ago and my garage/shop is still a mess... I need help with low budget/diy ideas for organizing this pile.

Big things that must stay are my work bench (I may cut down the depth a little), South Bend Lathe, band saw, drill press, vise/stand, pedistal grinder, bicycles. Obviously, they all can move within the garage...

Other than that, I'm open to suggestions...

Basically, I have too much stuff, my old garage was bigger...

Looks like you've got a start with the hooks on the ceiling for your bikes.

I put my tools that are on stands on rollers. That way I can put them along the wall and move them when and where I need them.

I just built some shelves that started at 3 ft high so I could park odd weird stuff under it that is floor space takers.

If it's something you seldom use, letgo or craigslist can earn you some cash for some organizing budget.

The fundamental problem for home shop guys is that we have to have a shop full of machines. Which also has to contain all of your stored materials as well as any partly completed projects. So by definition our shops are cluttered. In your case, you also seem to have to keep a lot of bicycles and what not.

Try to keep everything out of your shop but shop-related items. That would go a long way. The next thing is that you should have a place for everything and keep everything in its place. Which means you need a godawful pile of storage. My shop has over 100 drawers and the more I put in the less clutter there is.

Finally, try to live with the maxim 'use it or lose it'. The best way to reduce a pile of clutter is to give half of it away. This is mostly a mental exercise.

I would start by getting that tool box off of the floor. It will start to rust faster than you think. Next I would get the bench cleaned off. Don't forget about the space between the wall and the garage door rails.( good place for the show shovels and other flat tools....hang them high)

Use your ceiling height. Floor space is always at a premium. Rack of shelving that covers a whole wall is a good start. I even built shelves over my garage door header in my small garage.

Make sure your shelves go all the way to the ceiling to store things you dont use often.

I find that treadmills are best stored in the closet so you can hang clothes on them. Also, it looks like you need 28 more bikes.
Just messing with you. Everytime I move it gives me a chance to throw or give stuff away if I haven't used it in a year or 2. Might be a chance to help someone less fortunate out as well.

Use your ceiling height. In my last garage I did almost three walls with a single shelf about 2ft down from the ceiling. It’s amazing how much stuff you can get on like 40ft of shelf.
As a family of 4 with 11 bikes and a tandem, I get it. Check my link below on the last few pages for pics of my bike solution. I’ve got two bikes hung in my main shop shed. All the extra and kiddo bikes are hung in an 8ft wall of the garden shed. I’ve got 7 bikes hung by their front wheels in that 8ft span. All still accessible.
