Check your local Sears; heard on here and saw at my local one they were asking on clearance $124 for the 200+ piece mechanic's set (sockets & wrenches). Definitely worth it. I've been investing in Snap-On and Williams USA lately, if it's for a resto on a classic, just shop around and buy American (I have a 62 Thunderbird in great shape that's my project when I get some time)

Sears craftsman set

The sears around here are having friends and family night this sunday(7-15) from 6pm to 9pm. Get and exrta 10 percent off in store or online.

You'll get more for your money buying sets than buying sockets individually

David, based on your location, it looks like you have a Harbor Freight in town. I'll toss them out as another possibility. Especially if you want to try getting by on the cheap and spend the money if the cheap stuff doesn't do the trick.

There's nothing wrong with that Sears set especially if it's available in your area at a deep discount. I think they're still USA made on most of that stuff. Of course, all that metric in the set won't do you much good on your rebuild project.

OTOH, $10 will get you a lifetime warranty 51pc set over at Harbor freight and if you toss in a couple of the composite ratchets you're only about $30 in tools. (maybe less with coupons). More $$ to spend on car parts and specialty tools. Good cheap impact sockets available over there too.

Plenty of other choices including Gearwrench/NAPA sets, going with impacts instead of chrome, etc. I'll leave you to search on those things. Cripes and Epsteins would be other places to source tools, but it won't get it into your hands quite as quickly as Sears or HF.
