The tool box truck came around and I got suckered into buying a new toolbox. I'm just having a hard time deciding what color to pick. I'm thinking midnight blue but the flat blue looks so good.
Depending on which color I than need to pick either stainless top or black bedlined top. And than either black or titanium trim...
Please weigh in with constructive opinions. Thanks.
(First picture is the actual box in midnight blue and the second picture is an example of flat blue with black trim(K-Dog's box.))

I'm not a fan of dark trim either. The flat colors do look nice though, I think the flat blue w/ stainless top and titanium or stainless trim would look sharp. The flat isn't that hard to keep up with regular cleaning. I had flat black and it was worth the extra time to clean. Good luck!

Right now I actually have it built out with flat blue, titanium trim, and stainless top.

:bounce:okay red it is, I have never been able to pick a color but that flat blue does catch your eye and I think a light trim on it would look good.

Pink :lol_hitti I wouldn't get a flat color, seems like it would show oil spots too easy. All my boxes were picked up used and all of them happened to be red, just because that's what I found deals on. I love the look of extreme green personally, but being just a DIY guy in my home garage, I buy what I can find for a couple hundred bucks on Craigslist.

If I was buying new I would get purple. But some how I ended up with a orange box and cart.

Well since it is my box, I prefer the flat blue with the black trim. If I had to do it all again, it would be flat blue with the black trim.

Now if you look REAL carefully,,,,, there was an ordering mistake. The outer trim on the left locker is actually the platinum trim. I like the black better, but you can see the two together in the photo.

BTW I also have the truck bed liner top. I like it, but I had to buy a clip board to keep on the tool box incase I needed to write something. Just a heads up. Not a good writing surface.

Number 1 is a timeless, classy look. Number 2 is kinda cool but it might look dated in a few years.

exactly...flat paint is a fad, I think its actually on its way out. Your tool box will last for decades to come and it will look really dated in the future. When I first saw matte painted cars I thought it was cool and different, now when I see one I think its about 5 years in the past.

Flat is a pain to clean, Bedliner top looks nice but how do u clean it? Might as well have a rubber mat. I vote stainless top, gloss paint, chrome trim. Titanium trim looks sharp but I think it needs to be on a lighter color. Pm me. I can send pic of a midnight blue box with stainless top and chrome kit (co worker)

Th flat looks awesome especially with those fancy rims. True, the glossy is easier to clean but everybody has glossy toolboxes. Be different.

For the looks department, I like the flat blue as it looks like comfy blue jeans. For the ease of care though I would go with the glossy blue as flat colors are a PITA to take care of.

The flat is not really that difficult to maintain. I wipe it down every other week, give or take. The bed liner top is even easier to maintain. I work in a body shop so dust is the vast majority of the issue. Hit it with a blower every now and then, wipe it down from time to time. No biggie. There is not a tool box on earth that will stay clean in a dirty environment.

You all actually wipe your boxes down enough to notice which colors and finishes clean easier??
Man, I wipe mine down once a month for the dust or sooner if I spill my coffee on it, otherwise it holds my tools and stickers.
My ol man's box is a red/grey craftsman, my box at work is a red frame/dark grey drawer Husky from early 90's.

I've never been a fan of black trimming anything. Everything needs contrast for balance...hi-lights if you will.

I clean my tools and my box once a month.

Mine is gloss black and it's annoying to clean without leaving streaks. I painted my car satin black once, and it was awful to clean...I imagine a toolbox covered in grease and grime would be even worse.

Screw that midnight purple garbage and get gloss blue with black trim and stainless top! :)

No, I'm a paint and body man so I know finishes. Thanks though for assuming lol. My boxes get wiped down about every couple months or blowed off to the least. They get covered when heavy mud work or spraying goes on because I do my best to keep them as nice as possible as I've bought nice cars for what I have paid for my boxes.

The flat colors are definitely more apt to attract finger prints, I am not as sure about dust. Seems just as easy to clean as my old gloss box was. I really don't care, I love the color, also it is not one of the colors you see all the time.

Yea. I think that combination looks killer. Now I'm having a hard time deciding on drawer layout but I really think the fewest about of drawers would be best. This way I have lots of big drawers and not many smaller ones My current box is similar and works well (krl1032.)

So you want a box like this one???

I went the opposite route, but I don't like big drawers. My box is also in my private shop and I have a stockroom to store big stuff. Definitely look at other boxes, it is not easy or cheap to get new drawers later. Also I think you can get three full width drawers now depending on the configuration, that may be another option.

I know exactly what you mean. For what it's worth this is my home garage.
I'm just OCD to the point that all the same type of tool needs to be in the same drawer. I could always divide a big drawer if I want to mix and match.
He is what I am currently working out of.

Drawer configuration is the biggest PITA. I would re do only two drawers on mine though.

It took a lot of math and measuring, and even then when I moved in I still had to change what went where. Heck, my box will be a year old next month and I still am doing a little drawer rearranging every now and then. So I feel like I did an okay job of figuring it out. It would be nice if you could load up one drawer and point and say "I want one that size next. " and go on from there. My rule was, "Better the drawer be too big for the tools than the tools be too big for the drawer. "

Good luck in this part of it. Take your time, and think it through. Plan for growth and do this part right the first time.

I'd go with the glossy finish with chrome. Whatever's easiest to clean. I'd rather spend time cleaning tools than the box. :)

I just bought a box in this color combo. The type of orange trim just came out. Ordered a top box with it but the trim isn't ready yet for it. They only have it for the bottom right now.
