My brother-in-law is selling Anvil and I would like to buy it trying to get an idea of what it might be worth so we can work something out. Let me know what you think it has been welded to that stand so I don't know if that kind of hurts the value it is a Isaac Nash weighs about 88 pounds

Being welded to the stand would hurt the value in my eyes. Not that it would damage the anvil buy you'd have to cut it off the stand for a proper base.

Fortunately the welding looks like little more than some excessive tacks. That stand is completely improper. Agree with jumbo, it has to go.

Price? It's not a huge anvil and will need some work to make it useable and/or presentable. It looks to have nice crisp edges. I don't think Nash is a hugely popular maker but it's way better than a no-name. Made in England is very nice, too. Most people would be happy to get it at say, $200.

Put it on CL for $250 and see how much interest you get. If you get 6 emails the first day you know you're way off the mark.

Since this is your BIL you're getting favorable pricing, right?:thumbup::thumbup:

Do a rebound test to see if it works. A good anvil will give equal force on both sides of the work piece.

Here's a link that demonstrates this. If it doesn't have at least 75% rebound, it's not a good anvil.
