Hello all,

a long time lurker on GJ. I have been working to improve my garage for a while now, and now its time for me to move my tools from a plastic bin to a new tool cabinet.

I have searched around a lot, and it seems that one of the HF tool cabinets are the way to go. However, I like to go to a store and get a feel for a product before I buy it. Therefore, I am considering this tool cabinet from Gladiator:

Its a Premier 7 drawer 27" rolling cabinet. I am a weekend warrior kind of guy, so I don't need a lot of space. Moreover, my budget is limited to $400.

Do you folks think that it is a decent quality tool cabinet to build on? I have a bunch of other Gladiator stuff, so this will match with rest of the garage.

Please do let me know if you think I can do better than Gladiator. Thanks for your help!

I too like to see and touch before I buy, but even if I never had the chance to touch the hf box, based purely on the number of high reviews here, I would not hesitate to buy one. Great box for the money. Research has been done and a winner chosen.

The HF box is a better value. More room - and are going to need more room sooner than later

Look at the green and pink Viper boxes at Sears. You can order a variety of colors online after you see one of those in person. Some Sears also have the black version in stock.

Some Sears also sell Montezuma branded boxes. Both are very good quality.

If the diamond plate is your thing, the gladiator boxes ive seen at sears seem pretty solid. Deep drawers, rubber bumpers, nice casters. Plus, it ties in with the rest of your garage. I say, go for it.

Have you looked for used Lista & Vidamar cabinets? Much stronger than anything you will find at HF.

Thanks for the suggestion- but it seems that those cabinets will be way over my budget. They do look nice, however.

I had checked out the Viper boxes at Sears; the drawers didn't seem to glide as smooth as I have come to expect out of ball bearing based ones. The Craftsman and Gladiator ones were comparatively smoother.

But it could be that the issue was only with those particular items.

It is likely the case where something was wrong with those Viper boxes. The Viper boxes feel MUCH smoother and nicer than the Craftsman boxes I have seen.

For the money, the HF are the best hands down. If you have a little more to spend then get the Viper 41".
