need help putting a price on some tools

a Lady i work with has some tools that were her fathers (he passed about 10 years ago) well she is wanting to sell the tools but doesnt know a price to ask.
95% is craftman -v- series 1/2 and quarter drive
a few proto pieces and 2-3 vilichek wrenches whats a fair price to ask for all of it?

I think $30 is in line with what it would bring at a garage sale.
At a flea all laid out on a table I'd expect asking of $1 a socket and $1 a wrench.
I see boxes like that for $5 and for $20.
In a pawn shop, $50 on the sticker, with $20 paid out on it.

Putting together sets might bring more.

Ive bought more for less. The toolbox is 5-7 dollars and around 25 for the tools. 30 wouldn't be a deal breaker but I wouldn't be jumping up and down about it. I bought a 50 caliber ammo box filled to the top with Craftsman wrenches for 20 dollars. I was more thrilled over the ammo box, lol Probably 75-90 wrenches, all craftsman.

One word of advise. Clean everything well with some degreaser. I've been amazed at some of the toolboxes and equipment that I've gotten for $5 at auction because they looked like a complete POS, only to find later that they're really in beautiful condition, just incredibly dirty.

I've doubled my money several times by spending 5 minutes with some cleaner and a rag and flipping them on CL or eBay.

I could double my money at a Flea Market by cleaning up the toolbox and spraing it down with WD40. I'd sell each peice seperatly and come out double or better. I have never had luck selling a box of tools unless it was a full kit in like a fold up case. You can double the amount but takes time and a little work. When you have a table full of stuff people pick out what they need to fill out what they need. It brings a bigger price that way.

Unless on a table at a major flea market, random Craftsman inch tools have close to zero retail. If the set is clean and complete, someone will always give a few dollars for it, but loose stuff or sets missing pieces are hardly worth sorting, cleaning, transporting and re-selling. Certainly not worth shipping.

Having said this, a few will chime in with what about the rare, the older, the odd, the Craftsman stainless ratchets and the like. However, one has to be a Craftsman expert to sort the few diamonds from the tons of gravel out there.

Just picked up something similar but quite a bit more for only $10. Why so cheap ? Stuff has been sitting in the corner of the barn/garage and was full of grime, cobwebs, some rust, etc. and the folks didn't want to spend the time to clean it up to get more money.

So if people have the time use some elbow grease to clean it up as much as possible and make the stuff look like it was taken care of and it will sell much faster and for more $. That stuff looks pretty good already though. Especially important if you have a full set of something. Of course how much more..........well is mostly is Craftsman which is all over the place so not a whole lot of increase in $, but still there is the selling time factor.

That's a neat looking tool box! Not that I want or need yet another tool box.

I haven't seen many flea markets recently and the yard sales I see have mostly little kids stuff so i have no clue on what you can get. Selling online via eBay especially for sockets and stuff may be the way to go. Especially for better brands like the Proto.

Some of that nastiness may wash off if the box gets a good cleaning. Shipping it may be an issue, not nice enough or unique enough to attract an online buyer. But i still like it.

Hopefully you find some full sets cause it’ll bring in more $$. Cleaning up that box will also fetch few more dollars. $30 may seem low but look at it from buyers perspective yes it’s USA craftsman is but the market is flooded with them. Also I’m going to assume most of it is SAE, everything today is metric. Wish you luck

Around here, at an estate sale would probably be marked $50-60, actually sell for half that on HalfPriceDay usually Sunday.

If you're right about the drive sizes, 3/8 is the most popular=easiest, best selling, so that takes the value down a bit.

As others have mentioned, top dollar is probably selling a piece at a time, but what's your time worth?
