I've recently acquired all of my fathers tools, some of which are in poor condition. In memory of my dad, I'd like to try to restore most of them.

One of which is a Herbrand 42000 1/2 drive round head ratchet. I've gotten the clip off and the pawl mechanism removed. Unfortunately one of the pawls seems nearly frozen due to lack of maintenance. I'd like to completely disassemble it; however, upon first glance I didn't see any obvious pins holding the pawls in, and was wondering if the assembly may be pressed together?

Right now the complete mechanism is soaking in a jar of oil. Tomorrow I'm hoping it will free up a bit and I can take a closer inspection to figure out how these come apart.

I'd certainly appreciate any helpful advice, thanks ahead for any replies.

PS: I know this is my first post, I've been a lurker for about a year and gained a ton of knowledge just reading through everyone's posts. I've got a modest tool collection, mostly sk, craftsman, snap-on, thorsen, and new britain.

I'd soak it in a mixture of 50% ATF and 50% acetone. Let it soak for a day or two. If still no movement let it soak another week or two.
The stuff is uncanny in it's ability to free up ratchet mechanisms - it just might take some time. I had a frozen rusted Williams rat that needed a months soaking before I could finally get the parts to jiggle a little.

Yep, thanks but as I already mentioned it’s soaking in oil. A thinned down ATF, but not acetone so I don’t have to worry about oil separation. Back on point since working it loose isn’t the issue I’m concerned with.

Has anyone taken one of these completely apart?
