My buddy has a vintage horizontal/vertical bandsaw that needs a new blade for metal cutting. Problem is, it is near impossible to find 5/8” x 118” bimetal blades as nearly everything in that length is for butcher meat/bone cutting.

Most likely the blade would need to be custom made. Preferably 18 or 14/18 TPI mainly for cutting exhaust pipes etc.

If you could please point me out to a reputable website that has or will custom build this blade of good quality it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I got lucky in that respect. Where I lived previously there was a saw blade service shop 20 miles from me. After I moved to another town the shop is still now 20 miles from me. Have you checked for a local saw shop in your area? They can tend to be a bit few and far between.

Look for a local saw resharpening place, they will often also make band saw blades.

also look online for how to make your own. I have seen tutorials where people TIG or silver solder their own blades at home. I have even seen one guy that might welds them (but this is not nearly as good.

i have two blade welders so I make my own. I would offer to make some for you but unfortunately my skill with the blade welder has not developed and the blades I make often only last 30 to 60 min and break at the weld. Only good point is that I zap hem again and keep going

not to derail this thread, but are you annealing the welds ? if I recall in High School Metal Shop there was an anneal after welding to take the brittleness out of the weld joint
I am using the feature on the welder. It’s my understanding that there is a learned “touch” to it. I will say that the first blades I made only lasted 5 to 10 min, so I have gotten better.

on the other hand, if any members are in the area and want to, 1) use my blade welder, or 2) show me how to better used my blade welder……. Come on over

The relatively local saw shop to me will cut your own blade stock to length and weld it for $5 per blade. He provided me with 1/4” 6 tooth per inch carbon steel alternate set blades of 140” length for $20 last time I went. I have two Delta 20” vertical band saws with one for wood and one for metal. I use 1/4” 18 tpi wavy set on the metal saw because most of what is cut is thinner sheet material or tubings.

Try pulsing bursts with less timing each button push if you have not.
