I picked this up for $20 the other day, because why not? (I have issues)
I haven't found a makers casting mark yet, but based on the design I'm guessing 30s-40s. Note the square bolt heads.
The quill uses the vertical spring on top to return, never seen that.
Also no cover or provision for a cover over the belt.
It's a threaded attachment for the chuck.

I'd guess 30's, maybe WW2 era, by the shape of the casting and because of the square head bolts. Have you looked under the base or the motor mount for casting marks? What does the plate on the motor say, whats it voltage & phase, etc... I figure there has to be some sort of mark on it somewhere, unless it was an in-house build for some type of manufacturer (auto, machinery, etc.) for their assembly line. Even then, the motor will have some kind of ID on it.

Hell, for $20, yu got some good parts if nothing else. :D

I haven.t removed anything yet.
The motor is an old GE, I have a couple others like it. The info plate is on the end cap opposite the output shaft.
I'll try to get into it more this weekend, but Fathers day seems to be more about what others want for me, instead of what I'd like to do. :)

I have ever never seen one like it either. I would guess that the motor isn't original and neither is the vee groove setup.

The rear brackets adjust up/down and for/aft. There would be no reason for the vertical adjustment with a vee groove. To counter that argument, it would be an oversee complicated speed adjustment for flat belts.
