Need help w older Terex Scissors Lift

Hello,
I’ve got an older Terex TS26 scissors lift that was sitting for a while. I went ahead and replaced the batteries that were toast. Last time I used it was 3 years ago when building my garage. Now, it lifts fine, runs forward and back, turns ok. But it will not go down…either from the ground control box or the aerial controller. The only way to get it down is to release it with the emergency cable.

I down loaded the service manual from Genie, but haven’t been able to decipher it enough to help much.

Anyone here have experience with these? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like either power is not getting to the retract solenoid on the lift cylinder or the valve itself is not operating. Look for a valve/solenoid by the base of the lift cylinder, check for power when the down is being initiated.

And whatever you do, please watch the pinch points when you are working on that! Check the service manual - I believe that there is a lock bar that can be used to hold the scissors in place while the cylinder is being worked on. Use it while you are troubleshooting at the lift cylinder - check for power to the solenoid valve coil.

Dirt/debris in the fluid plugging bleed orifice for lowering. Flush and refill.

I'll second this. If you're emergency cable will lower it, you're not getting power to the solenoid or it's failed and not responding to the signal. The cable just manually operates the solenoid. Check for voltage (or if one of the spade connectors came loose) at the solenoid while sending the down command (and as "redmondjp" stated, use the safety bar!).

It Worked! Thanks bigguns69 and everyone. I lifted the platform this afternoon, looked at the base of the cylinder and bingo, one of the wires that connects to the solenoid had come unclipped. Plugged it back on and she works like a charm.

I had burned up the relay card in this unit 3 years ago when I think the main relay shorted, so it sat for a long time. I didn't need it immediately, but I sure missed having it when it worked. I since built a new building and I really wanted to this thing working to have when doing wiring of lights up among the 17' to 22' trusses. I decided to get serious about fixing her and finally came across a place in NC that repairs the relay cards and sent it to them. A new relay card costs about $1400 IF you can find one. $750 later, I had a good as new relay card but I was pretty nervous plugging that guy in. I had replaced the main relay, but still worried about burning up that new card. In any case, when she came alive I was really pleased to see her working, all except that down function. This completes the story and I'm glad to have the ole' girl working again.
