Need help wiring a compressor

I've got a vertical compressor, 240v 60Hz 1Ph 14a, that I would like to wire to a box/receptacle, plug and circuit breaker. I am thinking that a 20-amp breaker will be sufficient using 12 or 14 ga. wire. Could one of you electricians out there please confirm and let me know the proper wire size to run. I'll be about 20' from my breaker box.

If the full load is 14 amps, then I would suggest a 20 amp circuit using 12 ga wire.
