Need help wiring DPST toggle to motor

The motor has start capacitor. I could do this myself but the label's missing from the motor. Right now, it's wired to start when you plug it into an outlet. Inside the junction box, the black wire(power?) from the cord is connected via wire nut to three wires that go into the motor... one red, similar size to the black wire, and two thicker wires... one brownish looking and one orange looking(guessing these are capacitor wires). Here's the switch I have:

Just use on set of contacts to switch the hot wire that is wires up to your cord. The other set of contacts will not be used.

What about the two thicker wires... the capacitor wires?

Dont put a switch in the capacitor wiring.

Do what JDon said and use one side of that switch to break the black wire from the cord.

Not working leaving the capacitor out of the loop... surprise! I just get a humming noise with the red and black wire connected to the switch.

You might try to post a few photos so we can better see what you are having trouble with.

You need to put the switch between the incoming power line and whatever it was attached to. so if there were 4 wires wire nutted together, the switch will have 1 wire (power in) on 1 switch terminal, and the other 3 on the other terminal.

If I understand what you are trying to accomplish is to turn the motor on and off via the toggle switch, , , , ,

Disconnect the black wire (power in to the motor) and put it on one side of the switch, , , ,you will need to get a piece of wire of equal size, , connect it to the toggle switch and the other end connects to ALL of the wires that the black wire connected to originally

If you need to figure out the common connector on the switch, you will need a meter or a continuity tester, , ,
Over all, you are simply breaking the power side, nothing else needs to be rewired

As he said, use one set. Use an ohmmeter to confirm which two connections constitute a set.

This made sense so I did it. And it worked! Thanks all.
