I recently purchased this three-quarter inch drive socket set from a local guy on craigslist.

He said he bought it around 1977 and he still had the box it came in when he bought it.

My question is about two of the sockets that are a little different than the rest. All of them but two have no hole for the round ball on the ratchet to lock into.

Are these two from a different year of production then the rest?

See how the bottom of those sockets are longer. And the one is actually taller.

I would really like to find the right ones to replace those if I can, but I have an idea it's going to be hard with most of the sockets being never used. I don't even know what I'm looking for...

After looking at the two different ones it appears they have a little thicker wall then the rest of them along with the inside of the socket being tapered down to the square drive hole versus flat like the rest of them.

Possibly he broke those two sockets and had to replace them years ago.

They are all a "V" series so maybe an age difference vs a manufacturer change???

If you're an hd mechanic and using them everyday I could see wanting them all the same but otherwise I wouldn't sweat it. I've seen a lot of socket sets with similar oddities and it's hard to say if it will ever cause any problems. Everything you've got there without the sockets are worth the $150 if they are us made.

Sears had some big sales on 3/4"a while back and a number of members were buying and posting their scores. I tried to find the posts and couldn't but here is one on the subject:

I've always liked your style of ratchet vs the round beam style.

I'm not in HD mechanic at all and I doubt I will ever use half of the sockets so I know I won't have any problems. My OCD just wants everything to match.

Watch ebay for the ones you need.

I just don't know what I should be searching for exactly.

They could be original to the set. I have a 1/2" drive set and some of the sockets are G and some are G2. It's one of the 60 tooth low profile sets.

They formed these sets from what they had and a lot of them were replaced. Mine pooped 3 or 4 sockets in the most used sizes right out of the box. One replacement in 1980 was Taiwan then. The handles are ok, this set is ok but no reason to make it all match when none of them did when they sold them then. so many busted they scrambled to keep up replacements. Mine are not in great condition, hauled and stored in service truck.
