Long time listener, first time caller ....
I've read a thread here with great interest (this guy) and decided to rebuild the three jacks in my life that all have leaking seals. Unfortunately, the most beloved one was built before the world wised-up and used a universal joint inline with the handle to simplify things. The other two are pretty conventional jacks built on a Shinn Fu pump.
This Blackhawk 67424 jack (diagram HERE) has a pair of star wheels, like what we see on a car/truck's drum brake adjusters and they've always felt kinda awful. There was no sweet spot with the relief valve on this thing, just a loud squeak and the car would fall out of the air. As long as I'm rebuilding the jack, I REALLY wanted to sort out the relief valve issue.
Short version - since reassembly, the relief valve is now impossible to turn. Has anyone here rebuilt a similar setup and have any suggestions?
Long version - I've removed the bottle jack portion, rebuilt things that all seemed straightforward, but I was hoping to find some glaring problem with the relief. Ends up, I wasn't able to even open bore. I removed the rather large threaded piece item 31 and check its few internal parts. That left me looking at the Nylon Packing, item 35 which is used in two placed - once above and below the D-hole plate item 36. They look to be some kind of oversized, pressed in washer with an unusual surface to it. Since they're nylon and not included in my rebuild kit, I didn't see any value in trying to remove them at the risk of breaking them and have no idea if they contribute to the awful feel it USED to have or the fact that now it just doesn't work with any reasonable human amount of torque to the handle.
