Need help with a Skilsaw table saw

I have a SkilSaw 10" table saw, model 3400 13A 76821.
The handle that locks the blade angle is spring-loaded and retained by a screw. The screw backed out, and the spring propelled it across the shop into never-never land.
The parts list shows only the "handle assembly". All I need is the screw.

Can anyone tell me the size and thread of that screw? I don't even know if its SAE or Metric.

Take it to Ace or other good hardware and start trying sizes.

Well, that is always the option. I was trying to avoid getting the wrong screw started and possibly messing up the threads. I don't know how hard the metal is, and whether the wrong screw might start, then seize, and break off.

Home Depot and others have thread gauges to make sure you get the proper size and thread pitch screw replacement.

You aren't suggesting I carry the table saw to the store, are you?

I think the simplest way is to use a drill bit to gauge the hole size and buy whatever is close and carefully see if any fit.

Use the drill to get close then go to the hardware store and buy a few small bolts to try.

This is the only kind that will work and I've never seen one of these at a store.

If you have a tap and die set you can fiqure it out.
My set also has a thread pitch gauge.
