Need help with a spiral ring on my ratchet

I picked up this ratchet from a flea market and wanted to give it a good clean. As I took it apart, I thought that I would be able to get it back together without a problem. The second spiral ring has give me a headache. I haven't been able to get it back on.

3rd Image: shows the groove that the ring should sit in.
2nd Image: shows the cap to the ratchet on, how it hides the groove.
1st Image who knows, I'm tired.

Dude, those internal flat coil springs are a PITA! Patience and tenacity are your best friends here. These things are why so many of us do the 50/50 ATF/acetone soak for old ratchets.
