Need help with a wiring issue

I am thinking about installing a split air conditioning system for my wife's shop that is located in our home. The shop is a converted patio and sits on a brick foundation with no access from below. Just outside the shop door is a 220v dedicated circuit I had installed for a hot tub connection. Nothing fancy, direct wire, pull the safety plug out to disconnect. The hot tub is gone, but I have an outdoor Jenn-Air stove wired to this circuit. Can I split this connection into 2 seperate ones? One would still be 220v for the stove, the other a 110v for the air conditioner. any help would be appreciated.

Is the plug/receptacle three prong or four? Do you know how many wires go to the receptacle (three or four?)

Technically you would need to use this circuit to supply a "subpanel" IF YOU HAVE A NEUTRAL available, and then use the subpanel to supply the Jenn-Air and the A/C

Yep what he said. Not all 220 circuits have neutrals. If you put in a subpanel, all you need is two breakers, no main breaker, the main panel will protect the subpanel, and the new breakers will protect the wire from there.

Seperate the ground and neutral in the subpanel. There should be bar for the neutral, that is not bonded to the box. The subpanel will probably set up this way.


Its been years since I installed a hot tub. I guessing since there is controls that there is a neutral. But they do run dryer timers without a neutral, but thats not as fancy.

Yes, there is a neutral. This 220 wire runs to my breaker box and is on a 25 amp gfi breaker. The hot tub I had was an energy gobbler so this is heavy wire.

Sounds like your in business then. Providing your load isn't to big.
